As part of the joint efforts of the NHLCA and the AHCA Women’s Hockey Committee, we have setup a 4 week development program exclusively for NCAA women’s hockey coaches as an extension of the NHLCA Mentorship Program.
The NHLCA is launching a new program that seeks mentorship for 50 women in coaching around the league. Given how hockey has fallen behind other sports in the expansion of its talent pool, this idea can’t come soon enough.
It is telling that there isn’t a female among the 200 people employed as head, associate, assistant, video or goalie coaches in the NHL. The membership of the NHL Coaches’ Association consists of just one gender as a result.
