Thursday just happened to be the fifth anniversary of The Comeback on Katella, the playoff game wedged in the hearts of Anaheim Ducks fans and the game still capable of generating nightmares for Edmonton Oilers fans.
But Woodcroft, 45, with 23 NHL games as the Oilers head coach and McLellan, who has run the show for 1,000, are as close as their teams in the standings in the Pacific Division.
Will become 31st in history to reach milestone when Kings host Kraken on Monday.
McLellan is the 27th coach in league history to reach 500 wins. He is in his third season behind the Kings’ bench after previous stops in Edmonton and San Jose.
The countdown to training camp is down to hours, not days or months, and the Kings coaching staff has long been ready to start working with the invited players.
