Ever since he was introduced as the next Maple Leafs head coach in November 2019, Sheldon Keefe has sought to improve his club’s defensive play in all three zones, while keeping pace with the organization’s goal to control the puck as much as possible.
There is very little of Pat Burns in Sheldon Keefe.

One year ago today, the Maple Leafs fired head coach Mike Babcock. The club was mired in a six-game winless streak (0-5-1) and sitting outside the playoff picture with a 9-10-4 record overall.
On paper, the Maple Leafs had a respectable regular-season power play, tied for fifth with Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay at 23.1%.
As the quest goes on to get the Maple Leafs more players with a winning pedigree and Stanley Cup credentials, they have added another coach with those needed qualities.
