Doug Houda is in his fourth season on the Detroit Red Wings bench, joining the organization as an assistant coach following 10 seasons in the same role with the Boston Bruins. A former defenseman for the Red Wings from 1985-91 and 1998-99, Houda officially joined the team’s coaching staff in May 2016. Houda, helped the Bruins make the playoffs in seven consecutive seasons (2007-14) and win four division titles, two regular-season Eastern Conference championships (2009 and 2014) and one Presidents’ Trophy after accumulating 117 points during the 2013-14 campaign. Houda logged more than 1,000 professional games during his 17-season playing career, including 561 NHL games with the Red Wings, Hartford Whalers, Los Angeles Kings, Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders and Anaheim Mighty Ducks between 1985-2003.
