Scouts from four NHL teams watched closely as the Dallas Stars beat the Arizona Coyotes 3-2 on Wednesday night.
For one of those scouts, this was an obvious assignment: His team, the St. Louis Blues, visits Dallas on Friday. The others — from the Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers — could be called into meetings about particular players from this game before Monday’s NHL trade deadline.
Then there was Stu Barnes.
The former Dallas assistant coach has watched each Stars home game this season and makes frequent trips to watch AHL games in Cedar Park as a scout for the NHL’s 32nd franchise in Seattle.
