Wally Bednar needs a minute to think. So does his wife, Yvonne, when attempting to answer what could be the most critical question anyone has about their son.

Have they ever seen Jared Bednar get angry? As a child? As a teenager? Or what about at some point in his adult life when he thought nobody was looking? Surely, there has to be some moment when their son — who is the constant visage of calm — acted like the rest of humanity and took a respite from his most distinctive personality trait?

Right?

“I don’t know what to tell you,” Wally says from the landline of their home in Saskatchewan. “Sometimes, there are days I look at him on the bench and feel the same way. We have a son that is older and if he was the one running the team, he would have kicked down the building with a front-end loader.”
